Stencil printing

Stencil prints are produced using a very fine polyester mesh stretched over a rectangular frame. This is often referred to as “screen printing” (also ‘serigraphy’). Ink is forced through the mesh onto paper or fabric using a “squeegee”. The image is created by the ink that passes through the mesh of the screen and is therefore not blocked by the stencil. The stencil can be cut from paper or specialised plastic films, or made by painting or drawing a block-out medium directly onto the mesh.
