Printers Jacqueline Gribbin and Paul Kovesi flew to the community of Wadeye to do a five day etching workshop with women at Wadeye Palngun Wurnangat Association. The workshop consisted of artists who were completely new to etching and others who had had experience of it before. The prints will be editioned in 2010.

Northern Editions is excited to be hosting a two day multi-plate etching workshop open to the general public in July 2009.

In this experiential course, students will learn the art of multi-plate etching, a printing process resulting in the layering of colours, lines, tones and textures. Held over two Saturdays the course will cover the different etching techniques, the methods of image transferral onto a second plate, as well as how to ink the plates and print onto handmade paper. Using their own imagery and designs participants will finish the course with a unique and exciting etching to add to their portfolio.

Northern Editions is delighted to have Master Printer Monique Auricchio in Darwin to run the two day workshop. Monique has been a professional printmaker for over 15 years and exhibits her own work nationally and internationally, as well as collaborating with prominent Australian artists. November 2008

Northern Editions inaugural Open Day was held on Saturday 15 November to celebrate 15 years of printmaking at Northern Editions. Visitors were encouraged to explore a variety of print making techniques through classes run by our team of printmakers and volunteers and to view the Christmas sale and exhibition Past Impressions.

The Open Day was a great success attracting about 200 Darwin locals and tourists alike to our beautiful premises located within the tropical surrounds of Casuarina Campus, Charles Darwin University. At times the workshops were bursting with eager students trying their hand at etching, lithography, Japanese woodblock and screen printing. We welcomed a group of East Timorese soldiers having a holiday in Darwin right through to local art teachers and the Vice Chancellor. A huge thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers who dedicated days in preparation and their Saturday to support the Northern Editions Open Day. We hope to make this an annual event.

Northern Editions welcomes former CDU fourth-year honours intern Glynis Lee to the team in the position of editioning printer and studio coordinator.

October 2007

Waringarri Artists Agnes Armstrong, Judy Mengil, Minnie Lumai and Phyllis Ningarmara worked with Paul Satchell, Manni Redlich, Jacinta Numina-Waugh and intern Glynis Lee to produce a series of new etchings. It follows the earlier successful workshop with fellow artists Alan and Peggy Griffiths in April and will culminate with other Waringarri artists to launch a new boxed suite of prints in 2008.

Paul and Manni also delivered a training workshop for artists working with Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation. The artists created etching plates, learnt inking techniques and edition-printing skills in order to be self-sufficient in producing prints on new presses at their Darwin-based art centre.
