Intaglio printing
(pronounced in-tal’yo) This refers to any process that involves creating an image by etching (using acid) or incising lines and textural areas into a plate. The image is revealed by forcing ink into the etched or engraved lines in the plate, wiping the surface clean and running the plate with paper through a press under great pressure. Copper, zinc and steel plates are the most common but aluminium and a range of plastics are also used.
